Brief Description of NEC

            National Epidemiology Center is tasked to develop and evaluate surveillance systems and other health information systems: collect, analyze and disseminate reliable and timely information on the health status; investigate disease outbreak and other threats to public health, network of public health laboratories in support of epidemiological and surveillance activities.

OUR OBJECTIVES:

General: 

To develop an evidence-based culture among public health workers and decision makers

Specific:

  • Upgrade epidemiologic capabilities of health workers

  • Develop efficient health information systems

  • Provide timely, relevant, reliable health information to stakeholders

OUR FUNCTIONS:

  • Develop and maintain surveillance and other health information systems that generate accurate, reliable and timely information for decision-making

  • Upgrade epidemiologic and field management capacities of public health workers thru applied (in-service) training courses

  • Assess health status of the population thru surveys and special studies

  • Evaluate efficiency and effectiveness of public health programs

  • Investigate outbreaks and other threats to the public's health
